STAFFORD PARTNER
named in honor of distinguished statesman Robert Stafford.
This Partnership, introduced in 2004, honors Vermont's Senator Robert T. Stafford, who at age 93 passed away in December 2006. Throughout his long public service career he represented the best of Vermont values. He championed children and the environment and served as a member of the board of Green Up Vermont. He is the only Vermonter, and possibly only person in the nation elected to all the public offices of: County State's Attorney, Vermont Attorney General, Lieutenant Governor, Governor, Congressman and U.S. Senator.
"There can be but one ultimate aim for all of us. It is to take the necessary action today to make Vermont a better place in which to live in every spiritual, social and economic sense for ourselves and our children," said Stafford when governor.

Aiken Partner
named in honor of distinguished statesman George D. Aiken.
This Partnership, formerly titled Gold Star Partner, (2000 - 2006), honors Vermont's Governor and longest serving (34 years) U.S. Senator George D. Aiken who at age 92 passed away in 1984.
Aiken, a farmer at his roots, helped create the Eastern Wilderness Area Act (1975) to protect 200,000 forest acres as National Forest lands. He also propagated wildflowers and ferns.
For the first Green Up Day in 1970, Aiken played a key part in closing the Interstate, which literally required an act of Congress. "Green Up, as part of a drive to preserve our natural surroundings, clearly demonstrates why Vermont and Vermonters are just a little bit different," said Aiken.

Green Up's mission is to promote the stewardship of our state's natural landscape
and waterways and the livability of our communities by involving people in Green Up Day
and raising public awareness about the benefits of a litter-free environment.
